MT: Government launches Digital Malta: Domestic Digital Strategy 2014-2020

Concerned with 24 March 2014, the Maltese Government presented Digital Malta, one of the National Digital Strategy for 2014-2020.

3 – Variety:  

Digital Malta puts prominent a set of guiding principles and strategy actions of how ICT can be used for socio-economic development. It sets out an important path how ICT can be ascribed to different sectors of the economy and as a consequence society, and how citizens and business can benefit from its application. Digital Malta will bring about better employment opportunities, offered new markets for SMEs and as a consequence encourage a more entrepreneurial and creative mindset. It will empower citizens specifically where they are and in whatever they are up to, whether at home, at their administrative center, for their studies or in their pleasurable. Digital Malta also sets out by what method government can be closer to the voters through the use of technology and become more efficient in the way public services are delivered.

The seven-year strategy opened their gates by Hon Prime Minister Doctor Joseph Muscat in the presence for Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and as a consequence Economic Growth, Hon Dr Edward Zammit Lewis.

Doctor Muscat said that the Government considers precise advancements as an opportunity to further heighten Malta’s economy and competitiveness within the benefit of all: “Digital Malta usually requires us to the next level whereby we extremely achieve a successful digital economy. We will make Malta a central ICT hub that nurtures, creates and as a consequence enables an entrepreneurial culture which actually encourages research and innovation. ”

Digital Malta undoubtedly an example of how the Government is enjoying stakeholders and citizens – one of the strategy includes contributions from on 240 people coming from different written over of society, and incorporates beyond 300 proposals and suggestions written during numerous workshops, stakeholder déclaration and public consultations.

Dr Zammit Lewis said that Electronic Malta will facilitate the Government’s plans for economic growth from where everyone can benefit: “From the very begin, we said that we’re going to be pro-business and through this strategy we are not just incentivising entrepreneurs within the ICT industry but also those from other sectors to help better use of ICT and become a lot competitive in today’s digital worldwide markets. We also want to make Malta one of the first Wi-Fi enabled countries given the name and we will achieve this by extending absolutely free Internet access points in more localities, populace buildings and other places. We will usually invest more in our ICT system to enable the improvements we want in most sectors, including health and education. ”

Tony Sultana, MITA’s Executive Chairman explained how the concept outlines three strategic themes guidebook Digital Citizen, Digital Business and as a consequence Digital Government and how these are maintained three strategic enablers: Regulation and as a consequence Legislation, Infrastructure and Human Investment. He said: “For citizens, Electronic Malta will mean investment in creative programmes aimed at enhancing digital literacy as we believe that in this day and age almost everyone should know how to use and benefit from ICT. It also means an even bigger opportunity for citizens to engage with Government by implementing mobile applications and social media sites. ”

In terms of Electronic Business, Mr Sultana explained by what method local firms must be encouraged and as a consequence supported to embrace ICT to remodel themselves into competitive, export-oriented personal enterprises: “We want to transform means businesses operate. Digital Malta increases competitiveness and boost the attractiveness for the local industry by promoting a lot start-ups, attract foreign investment, support strategic alliances, encourage angel investment funds and nurture niche service providers. ”

The third strategic descubrir, Digital Government, aims to improve the energy-efficiency of the Government through the use of technology and as a consequence business process reengineering. The schedule is to empower public officials to share with you knowledge and collaboration within the Governmental and across agencies to meet customers better. The Government is dedicated to be transparent and to encourage populace engagement through the use of digital technologies, social media and crowd sourcing.

Mr Sultana added: “We which Government services should be citizen-centric guidebook i. e. designed around the requires of the people, be more user-friendly and have a lower amount red tape. We want to increase the take-up for eGovernment services and we aim to make time for this by simplifying existing public personal services and make future services on hand on multiple platforms and receptors. ”
