CH: General authorisation granted for tests of electronic voting

For 26 February 2014, the Irs Council authorised 12 Swiss divisions to use electronic voting in irs votes. The initial authorisation is real for a period of two years, and allows for around 169  000 voters with regard to cast their vote via the Internet. The ultra modern legal bases, on which the organisation of electronic voting trials is situated, entered into force on 15 January 2014. The relevant provisions of the ODP have been revised and the Federal Chancellery has enacted a new ordinance using electronic voting (OVotE). Under the creative provisions, the Federal Council can certainly, following a relevant request, authorise your canton to use electronic voting for many federal elections or for a the highest possible period (Art. 27a para. 7 ODP). This general authorisation restricts the geographical areas and the ouverture during which the canton may use computer voting.

The quarter which has obtained a general authorisation also need to apply to the Federal Chancellery to obtain approval for each election in which heading to use electronic voting (Art. 27e ODP). The Federal Chancellery must approve this procedure if the conditions tv set by federal law are attained.
